Winner of the International Children's Peace prize

Worldwide, at least 1 billion people are living in poverty. Hundreds of thousands of those people don’t have access to clean food, sanitized water, health care or even an adequate shelter. In the Philippines thousands of impoverished children die everyday due to the lack of health care and disease. Many people have either taken no action or care  little about this situation. Fortunately there is at least one person who is making a difference. Kesz, who won this years Children International Peace Prize. He is one person who has first hand knowledge about life in poverty, as he was a street child himself until the age of seven. Ever since he was rescued he has been making a difference in the life of the street children by teaching them the importance of health care and hope.

Knowing how dangerous life is in a dumpsite,  Kesz teaches the street children the importance of health care because he feels like it is his obligation to help the less fortunate. So many children around the world die unnecessarily and Kesz want to make a change. “Every day 6,000 children die from diseases associated with poor sanitation, poor hygiene.” Kesz wants to save as many of these children by teaching them how to live a healthy life. Making the street children smarter about their health gives the kids a better chance to keep on living. Kesz knows what life on a dumpsite is like. Drinking sewerage water and allowing flies to feast on his festering wounds was once part of Kesz’s life. Today Kesz visits schools to try and prevent what happened to him happening to other kids. “I teach children how to wash hands properly, brush teeth daily, and bathe regularly. And I believe that some of these street children we save will pay the act forward to help champion their own communities” Kesz is following through with his plan to help save the children of the street by showing them how they can keep healthy. Showing them how to look after themselves and giving them knowledge about what they need to avoid disease and death. By paying his lessons forward, Kesz hopes that the street kids will continue to teach his lesson to other street kids and that how to live a healthier life will spread to many other street children. It is not only advise on health that Kesz gives, he has created a charity called ‘Gifts of Hope’.

Having been lucky enough to be rescued, Kesz gives hope to other street kids by giving them gifts they need to survive. Along with the education of health care Kesz also gives the street children gifts of hope to symbolize that they can still survive. “For his seventh birthday, Kesz didn’t want any presents for himself. Instead, he wanted to give something to other street children: Gifts of Hope.” Kesz started his journey with the gifts of hope. He journeys around his hometown giving gifts to the impoverished children.  When Kesz fell into the fire  At the age of five Kesz fell into a fire and suffered severe burns, “looking back, the fire that burned my skin and flesh is the same fire that started a flame in my soul.” The flame in his soul is the part that drives him to carry on with his mission. That flame is made of hope. The hope that inspires him to keep on fighting for the street children. The hope that embraces the street children so they don’t give up.

One billion people living on the streets without knowledge of healthcare and 6 thousand dying every day is what Kesz is striving to change. Today, hundreds of children and adults are helping him with Gifts of Hope. They are trying to make a difference and meet three of the Millennium development goals . To “eradicate extreme hunger and poverty, achieve universal primary education and reduce child mortality.” Kesz is winning - low mortality rates are reducing and the kids in the dumpsites are now better educated and have hope.This cause is a slow but an ongoing process but they can not do it alone, Kesz is an inspiration to children and adults who are working to make this world a better place. If it weren’t for people like Kesz and a handful of others then the rate of child deaths would become greater and greater.

Father Francois you are my honored guest. Please allow me to explain the feudal system before you ask any questions of me. I am but a simple farmer. The feudal system is the transfer of the king down to his vassals. The king will pass down land in exchange for soldiers and military service. As well the vassal’s can then give the land to others for soldiers or military service. Even though the Soldier’s or Vassals are allowed to use the land the land is still owned by the king.

“If you are a soldier for the king and you die in battle what will happen to the land?” If a soldier dies in battle then the land goes back to its previous lord.

“What happens if the Vassal breaks his oath?” If a Vassal breaks his oath the Previous lord can take it back.

“What if the Vassal rebels?” If a Vassal rebels then the lord can duel the Vassal for the land.

A Clash of Kings

In 1066 there was a sereis of battles that took place in the eastern and southern parts of England. From these battles there were two mighty kings and a conquering duke. This is a passage that will explain who had the rightful clame to the throne of England.
It all began when King Edward (a very holy man that spent much of his time confessing to god) got very sick. People called King Edward "the confessor". This was his nick-name because he confessed to god a lot. Edward died on the fifth of January 1066. When he died the nobles met in the Witan and agreed that Harold should be King. Harold was crowned on the day that Edward was buried. King Harold was the earl of Wessex that means that he is a member of the nobility and has plenty of rights to be king first He is an earl second he was chosen by the nobles . And in that time when the king died the nobles choice was above all.About 2,000 kilometers away was an unsatisfied King. his name was King Harold Hardrada of Norway. Hardrada was unsatisfied because he thinks that he should be the rightful king. A long time ago
Hardrada's ancestors were the rulers of England that makes him the rightful heir to the throne. So far King Harold has more claims and better reasons but there is still one more person who thinks that they should be king that person is Duke William of Normandy. In 1051 William said that Edward proclaimed him his successor and when Harold was captured by William he took an oath that William will be king. After Harold was crowned William told the pope that Harold is an oath breaker. In that time an oath breaker was basically the worst thing to be called. The word of Harold being an oath breaker quickly spread and gave William more claim to the throne. Over all King Harold and Duke William have the best, and the most powerful claims, but the Duke said that Harold was an oath breaker witch makes him have a powerful claim. I think that Duke William has a more powerful reason because being called an oath breaker is just bad, bad, bad!

exclusion

At the beginning of the year I witnessed a new person at school. That person was picked on by the more popular kids. they were teasing him, they were calling him names they even physically bullied him. I related to that because I was that kid once. I was the one who got picked on by others but then I met a great friend. All that kid needs is a friend. Having a friend can change someones life for the better. who didn't have any friends. They didn't hang out with anyone, they didn't work with anyone they didn't even talk to anyone when they weren't forced. I reacted as a bystander because i didn't know what to do at the beginning. I should have acted as a friend I could have let them hang out with us I should have.

1.What’s familiar about the incident Eve describes?
After watching a video about exclusion I realize that her story was a lot like mine. The only exception would be that I was a bystander and she was a victim. She has been through it all so have I and so has the boy.
2.What surprised you?
The thing that most surprised me was that the most popular girl in school took her in as a friend. That person had the curage that no one else had.
3. How is ostracism different from other forms of bullying? When does ostracizing or excluding someone from a group become part of bullying?
Ostracism is different because this person who is being excluded doesn't have friends and is a loner. bullying is different because you are included as a friend but you get picked on every once in a wile. Bullying has many things under it exclusion is bullying because bullying means "a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker." in other words it is harming someone using exclusion, abuse, hitting, kicking, name calling, telling bad jokes, attacking etc.

Schindler's List

Schindler’s List
What makes a person “heroic?” Does a hero possess certain qualities? Or is a hero defined by his or her actions? Was Schindler a hero?
The traits that would make someone heroic would be to do a good deed for some one. They might have to put there self at risk but they would do it not because they have to because they know that it's the right thing to do. For example a fireman could be heroic just look at what he does. He saves innocent lives and he helps the wounded get out alive. An average person could be your hero. A hero doesn't have to be like superman but a hero has the heart to help people while others will just stand by and watch the show. A hero can also be someone who was a bad person but then did something good that saved many peoples lives. There are many examples of hero types but now I am going to move onto the more important question. Was Schindler a hero? Some of you might be wondering who is Schindler? but I am here to tell you who he is and what he did to become a hero. Oskar Schindler was indeed a hero. He was a member of the Nazi party in World War II just looking for a "fast buck." He hired Jews so that he could make a buck or two. but when he went to one of the concentration camps in Poland he realized that these people should not be treated like this. So Schindler decided to take jews out of camps and hide them. He did this so that they could be able to live. Literally. So in this blog I thing that Schindler was a hero and he did put himself at a huge risk. If he were to have bean caught he might have bean executed or sent to a camp.

Sonia Weitz's: My Black Messiah

This is a poem about this Black soldier who saw what terrible state that these people were in. My annotations might help you understand this poem. This poem is called "My Black Messiah."
First paragraph. When she says that she never saw a black before she really meant that she has never saw an African American before. the reason that she has never saw a black before is because, at this time, Germany was under Hitlers control. meaning that only Germans could live in Germany that basically leads to the extermination of anyone or anything that wasn't German by Hitlers perspective. Next annotation. Her instant reaction is that this GI will set her free before she dies. A Messiah is a leader or savior of a particular group of people. most likely a religious savior.
Second paragraph. My first annotation is about here relief that the Messiah had come for her. My second annotation was a metaphor. This metaphor was interesting because she compares a mans vision with a blind mans vision. She says, "Stared with eyes that didn't see." This is a metaphor because it compares without like or as. After that line in the second paragraph she states that he never heard a single word that hung absurd on my tongue. Absurd, in this case, means unreasonably.
Third paragraph. This paragraph is not what you would expect if you were in Sonia Weitz's position at the time. The "savior" did not set her free but just stood there. She saw his shock and horror in his eyes and she new the kind of of shock that he was in. For here it was the cruelty to Jews and how no one would speak out and say that Jews were not the enemy of new Germany. The only thing that gave his emotion of horror away was in his eyes. Hi did not cry, he did not say a word all he did was stand there and let a flood of devastation was him away as if he innocence was forever slain.
Forth paragraph. This paragraph is about how the black GI had left her in her camp with her sister. "We went our separate ways without a trace." she said. I joined the last and second last paragraph together. my next annotation was a bout how they still hold a tight bond of a dare. A dare to live, to hope, to smile... and yet they vow not ever to forget.
This poem is very interesting because You will almost never think that a Black GI would just storm into a concentration camp and stop at the horror of this murderers. I honestly think that his choice to leave was good so that he didn't get her killed as well. I can connect because my best friend in India was a black and he left and went to Jordan. This poem made me feel sad because that GI just left her there to suffer.

Germany 1918-1933

What conditions were present that allowed Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party to take control of Germany in 1933?
There are quite a a lot of of events that Hitler gave Hitler a great opportunity to take control over Germany. One of those Events was the Hyperinflation and economic crisis that devistated Germany in 1923. Taxes went up and prices for everything soared to an unbelievable amount. That gave Hitler a chance to speak out and overthrough the government but he did so in a violent manner. His actions gave him a 9 month sentence in jail. In Jail Hitler rights a book called "Mein Kamf" or my struggle. In jail Hitlers popularity soared. When Hitler was released he decided to run for presedent. Hitler only receives 2% of Germany's vote. Germany's Weimar Republic was hit hard by the depression that made stocks and markets shut down. The bank was shut down so that they could repay the damage of world war I. American loans to help rebuild the German economy now stopped. As unemployment soared the rate reached nearly 30% in 1932. Since lots of Jews were bankers Hitler decided to use propaganda do set the german people against the Jews. People started listening when Hitler told them that he was going to change his way of running for president without making violent marks. In the next election Hitler gained 33% of Germany's vote making his party go from the 9th largest to the 2nd largest in Germany. The government decided to put Hitler as chancellor of Germany. Shortly after Hitler was appointed chancellor the president died. Hitler then took power and became president of Germany. In 1933 there was the mysterious Reichstag burning Hitler blamed the communists for this burning though in the present day we now think that it was the Nazi's. Hitler ordered that there be no other legal parties except for the Nazi's. After those orders Hitler initiated the Nuremberg laws forcing that there be new Identity cards for Jews and that there be only the marriage of an Arian and an Arian or a Jew and a Jew also that a Jewish doctor was not allowed to operate on an Arian person. Those are just a few of the many Nuremberg laws and now you can se that the rise of the Nazis was through many events of government failure, baking disasters, propaganda and plane luck.

Anyone who had three or four Jewish grandparents was defined as a Jew, regardless of whether himself or herself as a Jew or different religious beliefs.
2.  What was meant by "Aryanizing" Jewish Businesses?
The Nazi's Aryanized Jew shops and business owners and replaced them with no jew owners.
3.  How were Jews who were professionals (lawyers, doctors etc.) restricted?
Jews who were doctors were not allowed from treating non-Jews, and Jews that were law students were not allowed the practice of law.
4.  What did Jewish identity cards need to include now?
the government added special marks to their cards. They added a red "J" stamped on them and new middle names for all those Jews who did not possess a name that can easily be a jewish name. "Jewish" first names -- "Israel" for males, "Sara" for females.
5.  What was the "Law for the Protection of the Hereditary Health of the German People" (sum up in your own words)?
The "Law for the Protection of Hereditary Health of the German People" made it so that any two people who wanted to get married had be citified by the public health authorities. That stated that those people had the right to marry. These certificates were not given to people that were ill, contagious with something or were trying to marry, but were violating the Nuremberg Laws in any way. An example coulds be of a Jew wanting to marry a non Jew.

Hitler Seized control

What are civil rights? well I think that civil rights are things that people have the right to do. For example, One civil right would be to vote for president if you are a citizen of that country, the right of freedom and the right to protection from wrong or harmful doings. These are just a few of the many civil rights.

So if you are wondering why I am talking about civil rights it's because Hitler took away Germany's rights. When the Reichstag was destroyed Hitler blamed it on the communist. He did this because he disliked them and he thought, what better way to get rid of an enemy that turn the people against them. So the people thought that the communist should be punished for there bad deeds. The punishment was so devastating that Hitler ordered that they, The communist, should have their civil rights taken away from them. The Nazi's believe that an action such a taping into a phone was necessary to over here enemy chit-chat about rebelling against the government so that when the Nazi's over here any talk like that they will put an end to it.

The Treaty of Varsillies

In My opinion I think that the treaty of Varsillies is more than fair. I think that since the Germans mad a huge mess of things in WWI that the treaty had to be made. It's only fair that the Germans pay for the damage and release their grip on their colonized land. They also had to cut down their army. If the decision was up to me I would have done the same thing a President Woodrow Wilson did.

A good life has meaning

In my opinion I think that a good life is one with a meaning. You can be poor and without the latest tech in the world or some smartphone that the coolest kid in the grade has but, the one thing that you have that they might not, would be a meaning. For me that's enough. I don't need a smartphone or a machine all I need would be a meaning and a house with food, water, toilets, and a shower. If someone puts me down because Im not the coolest kid in the grade or even cool. I don't care. All I care about is that I have a meaning and you don't. You can tell that someone has a meaning if they are happy on a regular basis and don't harass people in any way. You can tell if someone doesn't have a meaning if they are sad and depressed all the time they could be getting over a breakup or some family issues or they could be depressed about not having a meaning or can't find their meaning. Me, well I have a meaning mine is sort of like a temporary meaning I very from meaning to meaning on a regular basis. I could be a sports jock or a class clown sometimes I pretend to be an actor and say lines from movies that I've heard my favorite actors say. So every one has a meaning they just don't know it yet. I found mine be going with the flow and seeing were it takes me.

Learning Profile NN

Since I'm a Learning profile NN that means that I am active and Gestalt. Gestalt means that I use the right side of the brain and not the left. I look at the big picture and don't pay attention to details until later on. These are some things that I want my teacher to know about me being a learning Profile NN.

I learn best when I sit halfway back on the right side to hear but where I can also move around without disturbing other learners. Something that would help me would be having something like clay, knitting or doodling. Since I'm a boy I like clay and doodling not knitting. I need to walk around once and a wile because I cant sit still. I have ADHD Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. I also need to play games that focus my eyes so like playing crazy 8's or Speed (card games). The strategies that would help me in my learning are things that I can use in class without distractions. I would like my teachers to know this about me that I can be a bit impulsive and talk without thinking and I also like lots of activities so things that make me active but not too active I also hope that my teacher can give me something to work on t distracting the people around me.

Greek myths

I enjoyed The story of when Icarus and his dad Daedalus tried to fly and Daedalus told him not to fly to high because the sun will melt the wax and if you fly to low the feathers will get wet because of the water. I liked this story because it is one that I have never seen before and it was quite interesting. It was not the characters that made it interesting it was the fact that I have never actually understood the story until now. One thing that the stories had in common was that the narrator was the same and the talking dog was the same. Another thing that was the same was that all the stories were about a boy in some way.

white Mountains Freedom quotes

The quote refers to freedom.The author is making an inference that a persons feelings and desires to live his own life is suppressed. For anyone who has been capped they do not have a choice to live a life of their own. Though are may be endowed with good attributes to live a life meaningfully. Capping destroyed it for capped persons are merely reduced to robots or slaves living on instructions from the tripods .They are unable to make any choices. Chapter 6 gives an account of the three people stay in the castle. Although life is comfortable. Will,Henry and Bean Pole had not backed away from the ridges of escaping. Compounding with the good life, a knight hood offered to him and the company of Eloise. Will had wanted freedom and give up all luxury of life in the castle. Will sees the capped people as lacking in the essence of humanity and not having any courage against the Tripod. He deposited them.

The Tripods capped everybody in the hierarchy system. They capped common people and also those who have the power. By capping people who have power, they command orders to these people who in turn commands to the common people. All commands are passed through the mental mesh of the cap. Will is comfortable with Comte, Comtesses and Eloise but frustrated with them being capped. This can be revealed on page (116) that "more and more I had come to see the capped as lacking what seemed to me the essence of humanity, the vital spark of defiance against the rulers of the world. And I had despised them for it-despised even, for all their kindness to me and their goodness, the Comte and Comtesse."

Will is against being capped and feels that capped persons are slaves to the tripods. (108) ("No after all, they obey the Tripods. They are slaves. They treat us kindly,but they must not know our plans". This was explained by Beanpole to him.

White Mountains

Will and I are similar in some really obvious ways. One thing that makes me and Will the same is that we are both boys. Another thing that Will and I are the same at is that we both have the same name basically. Another thing that we have in-common is that we are both smaller then some of our cousins. So, on the outside, Will and I are very similar.

Now here are some more detailed things that we have in common. We both have strong ideas and will fight with other people so that they listen to our ideas. Will and I have enough money because so do our families, so we can wear nice clothes and have enough to eat. Will and I also travel to other places in out world a lot.
